Labor Doula Services

The term doula is Greek for “woman caregiver.” Doulas provide non-medical emotional, informational and physical support during pregnancy, labor and birth. A doula does not take the place of a partner, but rather assists the couple throughout the entire birth experience.

A doula provides:
  • explanations of medical procedures
  • emotional, informational and physical support before, during and after birth
  • advice both during and after pregnancy
  • exercise and physical suggestions to make pregnancy more comfortable
  • help with preparation of a birth plan
  • massage and other non-pharmacological pain relief measures
  • positioning suggestions during labor and birth
  • support to the partner so that they can love and encourage the laboring woman
  • help to avoid unnecessary interventions during labor
  • help with breastfeeding preparation and establishment
  • ...AND THE LIST GOES ON!

Benefits of Having a Doula Include:

  • 50% reduction in C-Sections
  • 40% reduction in Oxytocin use
  • 30% reduction in the use of narcotics
  • 60% reduction in use of Epidurals
  • 30% reduction in the use of forceps
  • 25% reduced labor length

As a Labor Doula, I believe that birth is a natural, normal and sacred process. I believe that each woman is entitled to make her own choices regarding what she feels is best for her and her baby. All choices are valid and important. I am committed to supporting families in a compassionate, non judgmental manner no matter what choices they make regarding their birth. Informing families of all of their choices regarding birth is important to me. I believe that a family has the right to be informed and then use that information to make choices that are best for them. I am dedicated to supporting not only the mother, but her partner as well. I do not take the place of but rather assist the couple throughout the entire birth experience. Birth is a miraculous event that should be honored and cherished. It is honor and privilege to support families during this life changing time.
